about
This really isn't a "real" album as it is a collection of songs that I wrote and recorded over the first ten weeks of 2008. I started the experiment when I felt a good bit of creative energy coming to me, but had nowhere to record because I was in the middle of building a new house and my studio was completely dismantled.

I had taken part in various rapid composers consortium events, where I would write and record a song in a day and then present it to the other artists taking part and it was always a great experiment. So I thought I would tackle something similar with this project.

Every song that is part of the 2008 Weekly Song Experiment was recorded as an improvisation while adhering to self-imposed limitations. Each song was written and recorded in a small room over the course of a week using only one microphone and free audio applications. Each piece of music/song had it's length limited to two minutes and thirty seconds.

The limitations proved to be a good exercise in focus and I rather enjoyed not having everything at my disposal. Perhaps this will be a yearly event. For now, enjoy this year's songs.

Track Name: Bring It All To Me
Instrumental
Track Name: Deny the Anxiety
Lyrics

It's not the friends we keep...
It's not how easy we cave in.
Track Name: Oblivious
Lyrics

Don't you fall down...
la la la la la la la la
You did fall down.
la la la la la la la la
Track Name: Your Plan
Lyrics

When can we slow down?
You said...when we're dead and gone.
I'm not okay with that plan.
The silver color speaks to me and says...
GO ON!
It's not enough to
SHOW UP!
There's just more to it than that and
the birds will support me when breathe does escape
me
And ice crumbles under my feet.

Attach the prize to me
You said...the water is too shallow.
It's what's underneath and can't see
that swallows the sigh and says to me...
GO ON!
It's not enough to
SHOW UP!
There's just more to it than that and
the wind will support me when breath does escape
me
and I finally fall to my knees
Track Name: The Middle Way
Instrumental
Track Name: Powered By Fear
Lyrics

Powered by fear
less than ideal
carry the cloud
you'll figure it out...someday.

Pass over you
what can you do?
you'll scream and you'll shout
you'll figure it out...someday.

And I'll be here to see
What you still believe.
Track Name: My Son
Lyrics

my son, you are the king.
my son, you are the thing that keeps me calm.
my son, you save the day.
my son, you get away with everything.
my son, you steal their hearts.
my son, you can't be stopped from growing up.
Track Name: Quiet, Tired and other Things
Instrumental
Track Name: Song For A Former Friend
Lyrics

sit and think of days gone by...
sit and think of reasons why...

we were told we'd be strong again
if we came up with another plan
corduroys and a black t-shirt
was what you were wearing
when we came up with a pact
to never quit or look back.
now i know you were just lying...to keep
from passing the blame to me.

shady eyes with bad intent
check the bank but it's all been spent.
take the train out of the city to think.
wishing we could take it back
all the brow beating and attacks
never got us very far, it's true.
the truth is...
i don't miss you.
Track Name: Pneumonia
