about
Every song that is part of the 2008 Weekly Song Experiment was recorded as an improvisation while adhering to self-imposed limitations. Each song was written and recorded in a small room over the course of a week using only one microphone and free audio applications. Each piece of music/song had it's length limited to two minutes and thirty seconds.

Week six brings Powered by Fear. This was an experiment in creating a short phrase in a very traditional chord progression. After listening back to this a few times, I would like to experiment more with this song and perhaps slow it down a whole lot and make it drone with lots of uneasiness.

Lyrically, it's a bit of a bite at how people live their life in fear of what may keep them from living some sort of an afterlife. I think Pindar said it best: "O my soul, do not aspire to immortal live, but exhaust the limits of the possible."

Lyrics

Powered by fear
less than ideal
carry the cloud
you'll figure it out...someday.

Pass over you
what can you do?
you'll scream and you'll shout
you'll figure it out...someday.

And I'll be here to see
What you still believe.
